Since it's our last day in Madrid, we try to make a relaxed and laid-back one. No more another an hour long day-trips like we did to Segovia and Seville two days before. Plus, we had been travelling for more than two weeks, it's our 15th day here in Europe and so, we want something which is free and easy type. My mom and cousin would love to visit Primark (not again!) for another shopping spree and so, I proposed that we do the sightseeing activities first before end our day at their favourite shopping store.
Before we get ready for the day, I accompany my mom to few nearby supermarkets to get groceries in order to prepare for our breakfast. As you know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we should eat like a king. My mom told me that she is pretty satisfied with the place I booked in Madrid because not just that she can cook and utilise their modern and fully equipped kitchen, she is also enjoying using their washing machine. I'm wondering, so many things to wash meh?

#2: The best part travel with mom. She cooked breakfast for us. Besides instant noodles, we had pumpkin soup, yogurt and muffin - what a heavy breakfast.
#3: Anton Martin - the nearest metro station to where we stayed in Madrid.
THINGS WE DO AND SEE IN MADRID - PART II
Part 1 - Refer here
El Retiro Park - This is the main public park in Madrid. A perfect spot for the local to chill, relax and jogging on a sunny day. In the heart of the park lies an enormous lake where one can hire a rowing boat. We saw a group of uni students enjoying themselves gently rowing their boat under the perfect fine weather. We didn't do so cause none of us know how to rowing a boat. Worry later on we stuck in the middle of the lake and shout for help instead. Hahaha....
Nearest Metro: Estación del Arte (formerly Atocha) (L1), Retiro (L2), or Ibiza (L9).

#7: Autumn/Fall - my all time favourite season besides spring.
From El Retino Park, we walked down to the nearest bus stop in order to catch a bus to Primark. In between that, we stumbled upon one or two monument and building that caught my attention such as;
#8: Church of San Manuel y San Benito - a magnificent looking Catholic church right opposite of El Retino Park.
#9: Puerta de Alcala, a Neo-classical triumphal arch in the Independence Square.
#10: Plaza de Cibeles is an iconic symbol and landmark for the city of Madrid.
#11: To end our final day in Madrid by visiting Primark. Shop till we drop.

Without taking the shopping expenses into the account, in average we spent roughly around RM1,087 including the AVE high-speed train ticket from Barcelona to Madrid which takes approximately 3 hours train ride. As for our meals in Madrid, most of the times we cooked at the apartment we stayed. Luckily there are 3-4 supermarkets within walking distance from where we stayed, hence it's pretty convenient for us to buy groceries.
#12: One of the way to stick to a budget is by buying groceries and cook your own food.
Our next destination ---> Milan of Italy.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you on cooking whule travel to save money.
Madrid is a such lovely city with all the old buildings that would interest me. I have learnt from your blogs that I should stay at apartments when I visit Europe someday.
ReplyDeleteIt is so nice to have your mother around to cook yummy meals. I miss my mum so much now as she was a fantastic cook who even cooked Thai dishes for Tunku Abdul Rahman when he retired to live in my hometown Penang.
What an amazing trip!! I love your photos and your stories!
