Panorama Bridge Sigriswil

<< Previous Post: Bernese Oberland - Lauterbrunnen, Mürren and Grindelwald <<

Right after we have done with our trip visiting Lauterbrunnen, Mürren and Grindelwald in Bernese Oberland, we didn't straight go back to our stay in Interlaken. This is because my husband suddenly came up with another impromptu plan (again!) which I didn't list in my tentative itinerary. If you are a big fan of K-dramas, I bet that you will know Switzerland is well-known for "Crash Landing On You (CLOY)" and both of us had been and bumped into few of the filming locations such as the one in Interlaken and Iseltwald. And now, my husband was on his way to catch another filming spot which is the Panorama Bridge Sigriswil (locally known as Panoramabrücke Sigriswil).

HOW TO GET TO PANORAMA BRIDGE SIGRISWIL FROM INTERLAKEN
The journey from Interlaken West to Panorama Bridge Sigriswil will takes at least 40 minutes ride by bus. From Interlaken West, take bus 21 towards Thun, Bahnhof and alight at Gunten, Bahnhof. Then, continue by hopping on bus 25 towards Sigriswil, Dorf and get down on the last stop. You can see the bridge by then. All these are covered under Swiss Travel Pass.

Unless you are 16 or below, it's actually not free for the public to crossover this suspension bridge. A visitor need to pay CHF8 (approx. to RM32) but if you are staying in Interlaken and the host provides you with an Interlaken Visitor's Card, then you can use it to get a discount of CHF1.

Despite the cloudy weather in the morning when we're in Bernese Oberland, we're truly blessed with a clear-far-reaching views overlooking the spectacular Lake Thun with the backdrop of the Bernese Alps during our time in Sigriswil.

Thanks to CLOY, Panorama Bridge Sigriswil has becoming the latest and top attraction among the foreign visitors where the local don't even understand the hype behind this.

This suspension bridge is pretty strong and stable and if you are not afraid of height just like me, challenge yourself to cross over it to another town. However for the faint of heart, I will advise not to do so.

Is it worth to go and visit Panorama Bridge Sigriswil? Only if you have plenty of time and nothing to do, then you may go for it. Do take note that the bus rides takes more than 40 minutes from Interlaken to get there. Or else, you may skip this, frankly speaking.

Finally, we had our first gelato in Switzerland (exact location: Interlaken)

Bernese Oberland - Lauterbrunnen, Mürren & Grindelwald

<< Previous Post: Crash Landing On You in Iseltwald <<

It's our second day in Interlaken and our plan is to cover few areas of Bernese Oberland.

Also known as Bernese Alps or Bernese Highlands, this region is situated in central of Switzerland which cover areas such as Jungfraujoch, Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, Gimmelwald and Grindelwald. One of the most popular things to do in Bernese Oberland is a trip up to Jungfraujoch, Top of The Europe. But because I've been there 12 years ago (click here for my very old post), my husband and I decided to skip this. Hence, we decided to pick and cover few places that I've never been before like Lauterbrunnen, Mürren and Grindelwald.

#1: The whole highlight of Bernese Oberland/Alps/Highlands

We began our trip by heading to Mürren first. However, there is no direct connection from Interlaken to Mürren and it requires to depart from Lauterbrunnen Valley. In order to reach there, we have two options since we're staying in Interlaken West:
1) Take train to Interlaken Ost from Interlaken West and from there, you can directly reach Lauterbrunnen, or
2) Take bus 105 to Wilderswil, alight and then, continue by taking train to Lauterbrunnen (we opted for this).

#2: While waiting for bus 105 to Wilderswil

MÜRREN
Mürren is a car-free area and can be reached by train or cableway only. Right after we have arrived at Lauterbrunnen station, we took the cableway up to Grütschalp. Then, we changed to the narrow gauge train to "Mürren BLM", the train station in the north of the village. The whole journey is covered under Swiss Travel Pass.

#3: Lauterbrunnen-Mürren Mountain Railway

Not sure is it due to we're too early or probably because of the weather, it was too cloudy and we're unable to sight any spectacular backdrop of the snow-capped mountain which it's famous for. We spotted quite a number of classic resorts here but not sure why (again), the entire village seems to be so quiet and hardly spot anyone here.

#4: Mürren village

#5: Authentic Swiss mountain village with timber decked resorts

#6: Leisurely walking around the village of Mürren - So quiet, so peaceful and calm.

#7

If you are big fan of James Bond films, you can continue your journey to Schilthorn Piz Gloria where one of the movies "On Her Majesties Secret Service" was shot here. However because it wasn't covered under Swiss Travel Pass, we tend to skip this. Perhaps, next time.

LAUTERBRUNNEN
Due to the adverse weather where it was overly cloudy and because none of the shops were opened, we made up our mind to leave this mountain village of Mürren earlier. We took the cableway heading back to Lauterbrunnen Valley again. Can't believe after 14 years, I'm back to this stunning village again.

#8: The scenery all over the Lauterbrunnen Valley is simply awe-inspiring.

Apparently, there are over 70 waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen Valley with spectacular backdrop views of the Alps mountain region. But of course, the one not to be missed will be the signature Staubbach Falls with a height of 297 metres from a hanging valley.

#9: View of Lauterbrunnen village with waterfall

#10: Lauterbrunnen for the second time. First time with my unimates, and now back with my 💗

#11: Old church surrounded by soaring alps and gorgeous waterfalls

Lauterbrunnen is also one of the popular spots for tandem paragliding but since we did it before in Interlaken, so we skip this. Luckily, we made a choice to do it a day earlier when the weather was perfectly fine, unlike today where it was cloudy.

GRINDELWALD
Lastly, we proceeded to Grindelwald for our final Bernese Oberland adventures. The top attraction here is the First Submit where you can reach via gondola. The route from Lauterbrunnen to Grindelwald is covered under Swiss Travel Pass, but not for Grindelwald-First. However, you can get a 50% off when showing a valid Swiss Travel Pass.

#12: Grindelwald is well-known for its North Face of Eiger, a monumental wall of rock that inspires and intimidates in equal measure.

#13: Grindelwald-First where you can reach via gondola

Another reason why Grindelwald tend to be so popular lately is again, due to K-drama "Crash Landing On You". Unfortunately, we decided to skip this one.

#15: Hotels in Grindelwald overlooking magnificent mountains

#16: Grindelwald Station

Frankly speaking, it's impossible to cover Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, Gimmelwald and even Jungfraujoch in a day. Hence, it's wise to spend at least two days if you are planning to visit these places. If I had the chance to return here again, probably I will choose to stay in Lauterbrunnen for at least two nights (crossed fingers). Not just being the most picturesque towns in Bernese Oberland, but also because Lauterbrunnen is the strategically situated along the main transportation network of trains and cable cars.

Central Europe Trip for 22 Days (Sneak Peek)

My third Europe trip (after Switzerland in Apr-May and Greece in early of Oct)
My 5th overseas trip
And probably, my last and final trip for this year (I believe lah)

This trip was initially my 4th and final solo backpacking around Europe and I had confirmed ticket back in 2020. I bet you know what happened after that. Got full refund from Qatar Airways and I didn't have any high expectations to materialise this trip to happen again. Unexpectedly, I came across a great offer by Singapore Airlines while I was on a Penang trip with my husband and mother in law end of May this year. I can conclude that this is one of the best deals I ever got cause it included a round trip from/to Kota Kinabalu which I don't even have to bother to book/buy additional tickets.

So we went for more than 3 weeks trip (22 days to be exact) travelling around Central Europe and covering countries and cities like:

#1: Germany - Landed in Munich and it's my first time in this city. Previously only covered Berlin and Dresden.

#2: One of the wishlists ticked off. One of the reasons why I wanna go Munich is because of this fairytale castle - Neuschwanstein Castle that inspired the Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland.

#3: Of course must do at least one car factory tour in Germany, such as BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and more.

#4: Returned to Hallstatt and Salzburg after 5 years. Still magical, still beautiful as always.

#5: Make a brief trip to Swarovski Kristallwelten, an interactive and interesting museum showcasing the crystal glass manufacturing.

#6: Innsbruck for the very first time but this charming city has made me falls for it.

#7: Unlocked another new country - Slovenia (country #59) and covered places like Ljubljana and Lake Bled

#8: Revisited Budapest again after 5 years. Did few new things for the first time such as taking cruise along Danube River and dine-in in the most beautiful cafe in the world that cost us a bomb, the New York Cafe.

#9: Initially I just plan to do a day trip to Budapest since I've been there before, but my husband got Backstreet Boys tickets. At the end, we decided to stay in Budapest for two nights just to watch our teenage year beloved boy band with the songs both of us grew up with. You can check out my Instagram for more stories and videos.

#10: Ticked off another new country in my list - Slovakia (country #60) and we visited places like Bratislava and Devin Castle.

#11: Prague, the capital city of Czech Republic is one of the most popular and visited cities in Europe. Everywhere also people mountain, people sea (人山人海).

#12: Prague is the only city in Europe that I've been more than twice (2008, 2017 and 2022).

#13: Ended our trip back in Germany again and stayed there for 6 nights before leaving Europe (2 nights in Berlin, 4 nights in Frankfurt)

#14: One of the most beautiful libraries - Public Library of Stuttgart

#15: We savoured few traditional cuisines and visited local cafes too.

#16: Last but not least, we didn't leave this trip with empty handed. I think both of us have visited more than 10 Primark stores across 3 countries (Germany, Austria and Czech Republic. Slovenia was closed when we're there due to the nation's public holidays)

P/S: Trying my best to complete my 2022 Switzerland travelogue first, before I can start blogging about this trip.
